NUS professor “counselled” by university for Facebook posting on lesbianism

The university has counselled the National University of Singapore (NUS) professor who drew criticism last week for referring to lesbianism as “cancers”.

In an e-mail to all faculty members, staff and students on Wednesday, NUS provost Tan Eng Chye said he had counselled Associate Professor Syed Muhd Khairudin Aljunied, who acknowledged that his original post “reflected poor judgment in the tone and choice of words”.

Prof Tan, who is also NUS deputy president of academic affairs, said Dr Khairudin’s comments “contained provocative, inappropriate and offensive language”.

NUS Dance Synergy

traces

NUS Dance Synergy is one of the 23 groups under NUS Centre for the Arts (CFA). Formed in 1978, Synergy strives to promote dance as a modern art form that incorporates elements of jazz, modern, lyrical and contemporary dance. Under the artistic direction of its Resident Choreographer, Mr. Fan Dong Kai and Technique Tutor, Mr. Albert Tiong, it has a growing repertoire of original works created by both professional and student choreographers that challenges the boundaries of expression in movement.

NUS Dance Synergy stands by its strong philosophy of encouraging everyone and anyone to take up dancing, regardless of age or background. In conjunction with this, Synergy also strives to introduce and actively promote the arts, especially the lesser-known styles of contemporary dance, to the public.

Expect poignant and enchanting performances from Dance Synergy on 22 March, 8pm at the University Cultural Centre (UCC) as they bring you Traces, that compels us to re-think what makes life meaningful.
Tickets are available from SISTIC. $29, $23 & $19 (excluding SISTIC booking fee). Find out more about their performances at https://www.facebook.com/nusdancesynergy.
