Battling it out at sumobot competition
A strong crowd of almost 200 gathered to see robots battle it out at this year’s NUS School of Computing (SoC) sumobot competition held on 23 October 2013. The annual contest is part of the introductory computing module CS1101S on Programming Methodology.
Associate Professor Martin Henz who teaches the course was delighted to see the enthusiastic response from students and shared that “the competition has doubled in size now with 24 teams competing”.
First-year students applied computing concepts such as functional and data abstraction to automate their respective robots at the competition. Robots had to pit again each other in a sumo-like fashion in four gruelling rounds, seeking to push the competing opponent out of a circle. At the end of the evening, team Martin emerged winner of the contest.
