What do you do with last semester’s textbooks? Ideally, you’d sell it.

Two weeks into launch, 10,000 listings have already been placed on NUS Marketplace.

Powered by Carousell, NUS Marketplace is an online marketplace exclusive to NUS students.

“We truly want to inspire more students to buy/sell with one another on campus,” Quek Siu Rui, Product Manager at Carousell, said. “It helps them save money.”

He added, “Plus it saves the Earth too.”

Carousell was co-founded by Siu Rui and two other NOC Silicon Valley alumnis, Marcus Tan and Lucas Ngoo. Today, more than 1,000 NUS students have signed up for NUS Marketplace.

It’s a simple process of downloading the app onto your smartphone, register for an account and start snap-selling.

According to Siu Rui, the motivation behind NUS Marketplace was to give students a beautiful yet simple marketplace for buying and selling on campus.

Before NUS Marketplace, NUS students typically use the used textbooks forum on IVLE. But Carousell allows students to also buy and sell other items such as furniture and appliances.
