Tuition fee hike at four varsities; polys, ITE to follow
Four public universities have raised tuition fees – by up to 7.9 per cent – for Singapore citizens enrolling in academic year 2014 (AY2014), with some institutions implementing steeper hikes for permanent residents (PRs) and international students. Fees will also be going up at the polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).
The National University of Singapore (NUS) has raised fees for general courses by 2.6 per cent to S$7,850. Popular courses such as business, dentistry, law and medicine saw bigger hikes of 3.3 to 7.9 per cent, with fees for the law programme rising 7.9 per cent to S$11,650 per year.
NUS Provost Tan Eng Chye, who is also Deputy President (Academic Affairs), said the fee adjustment was necessary to defray the higher costs of talent, supplies and services, and to help NUS better meet the needs and expectations of students.

NUS Sociolgoy Society
The NUS Sociology Society represents the student body of the Department of Sociology. The society was formed in 1967 by a clique of enthusiastic and idealistic freshmen, and it has never looked back since.
The committee members are elected at the beginning of each academic year during the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The academic year begins in early August with a Freshman Orientation Camp where everyone who came down really had heap loads of fun! Every year, there is a ‘Welcome Tea’ that is followed by the Annual General Meeting where new committee members are elected
Throughout the year, the Sociology Society organizes various other activities including trips, bazaars and modular seminars with the aim of fostering closer ties between the student body and the Department.
The Sociology Society also takes an active part in faculty activities such as the Annual NUS Open House cum Exhibition at the Department of Sociology.
As always, the Sociology Society hopes to establish closer ties between the Department and its past, present and future members.
The NUS Sociology Society is now recuiting Orientation Group Leaders, Councillors and Organizing Committee Members for its annual Freshman Orientation Camp this summer. Wait no more! Sign up forms for the various roles are indicated below:
