Ever had an age-old checkered pair of bottoms chucked at the corners of your drawers because you hadn’t known how to pair them? Or had your eye on a favourite piece of printed flounce georgette but was forced to give it up because it was too expensive?

Start heading down to the Topshop Topman Open House. Held from 21st September to 24th September 2017 at 99 Beach Road, it’s just a short walk from Singapore’s street fashion hub, Bugis Street. This would be a great place for your next outfit inspiration and what’s more, admission is free. Who knows, you might even find a piece of gem to add to your very own Autumn collection!

This year’s event brings us the most exotic pieces from their four newest collections – Rocket Man, Youth Clash, Check Mate and Royal Heritage. They provide a mixture of haute couture and high street style, and each collection is paired with an exhibit representing their unique characteristics. NUSSU The Ridge had the privilege of attending the VIP Media Preview on 20th September. For all you fashion aficionados out there, sit back and relax as we walk you through each impressive collection.

Part 1: The Collection Inspirations

Rocket Man

First of all, don’t simply walk past the Rocket Man exhibit! Located right at the entrance of the exhibition area, it can be easy to miss. But the organisers did not forget to give participants an experience to take away with the clever usage of multimedia. Put on your headphones and busk away to David Bowie’s ‘Starman’ as you pose for silhouette-style photos!

Youth Clash

Upon entering the exhibition area, you may be taken aback by a strange smell. Not to worry though, it is simply the smell of spray paint at the Youth Clash exhibit. Get in touch with your inner street artistry and spray graffiti to your heart’s content! (That’s right, for once you get to do this here legally!)

Check Mate

Walk through the Check Mate corridor and its beautiful strips of fabric galore, the very same tweed material used to make this year’s clothing collection. With the myriad of changing coloured lights and glen plaid fabrics of varying lengths, it would be a waste to give this instagramable backdrop a miss.

Royal Heritage

Last but not least, NUSSU The Ridge‘s favourite exhibit is definitely Royal Heritage! Enter your floral kingdom and receive your royal treatment with grace while a professional photographer helps to capture these precious moments into a GIF.

A quick tip: change your pose quickly, because the photographer is fast and there’s barely any time to think!

Part 2: The Clothes

Rocket Man

From studded leather jackets to bold statement accessories, here are trends you would want to live in this season. This part glam-rock part indie-rock collection is a hit from top to bottom, with its red and black notch-collared top to it’s matching wide-leg trousers, gold chained purses and comfy pullovers to keep you warm.

Youth Clash

Topshop x Topman’s four-day stint feels too short for a vibrant cosmopolitan city like Singapore where there often seem to lack creativity and expression. This autumn-winter 2017 collection fuses punk rock and urban street style to create “a clash of ideologies that shouldn’t work, but really does.” While this section of the exhibit was not meant for you to start modeling the collection, that sure didn’t stop us from doing it.

Take a sneak peek of their two selections – an oversized flannel draped over any plain white shirt for a casual look, and a graphic pullover topped off with a pair of distressed jeans for those going a more ‘bad boy’ image. Don’t give this a miss; you have to check it out for yourselves!

Check Mate

tt08

This Prince of Wales inspired collection features a glen plaid style of clothing, and is a must-have, if you wish to add colours to your collection of black blazers for formal events. Under this classic Check Mate collection, the stylists showcased their deft layering of grey checkered pants and blazer top over a maroon tee. In another outfit, a brown checkered jacket has been incorporated into a maroon button-down formal wear, giving it a more casual touch.

Royal Heritage

tt09

Who says laces and floral patterns are out of style? Contrary to that, Singapore’s summer-all-year-round season keeps floral prints fully bloomed, rain or shine. It’s comfortable, it’s dainty, and most importantly it looks good. Yet another Prince of Wales inspired collection, Royal Heritage features a neat ruffled-sleeved blouse with a pair of stylish culottes on one side, and a floral ruched sleeved dress topped with a black sequined purse.

While some of these pieces might range from $30 onwards, you could enjoy a 20% discount on both Topshop and Topman apparels with a minimum spending of $100 on Zalora. If you do come down to this particular event, you’ll get a $20 voucher that can be used with any minimum spending of $50!

Any event is incomplete without food. Do visit the open house and get your hands on one of their instagram-worthy ice-cream cones of your choice, freshly-brewed coffee and truffled-delights offered. Here’s the good news, students get free ice cream on the 21st and 22nd Sept by presenting their student card (while stocks last).

Need we say more? Check out the Topshop Topman Open House now! And don’t forget to hashtag #topshoptopmanoh if you do drop by!
