As Singapore moves towards becoming a Smart Nation, technology will become increasingly pervasive in our lives, transforming the way we work, live, and play. Thus, it is crucial that everyone in Singapore is equipped with the basic know-how of good cyber practices, in order to reap the benefits of technology. With that in mind, the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), in collaboration with the Cyber Security Awareness Alliance, is organising the second National Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign – “Cyber Tips 4 You”.

Results from CSA’s two public awareness surveys as well as onsite surveys conducted during the 2017 launch event showed that while respondents agreed that everyone has a part to play in cybersecurity, there is still room for improvement when it comes to actual adoption of cybersecurity measures, such as having weak password management habits and ignoring software updates. Some respondents have indicated that they would like to have more cybersecurity information and advice on how they can better protect themselves. As such, the “Cyber Tips 4 Youcampaign will focus on communicating to the public four important cybersecurity tips, namely to (i) use an anti-virus software, (ii) use strong passwords and enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), (iii) spot signs of phishing and (iv) update their software as soon as possible.

Communicating the four cyber tips are local celebrities Suhaimi Yusof and Jae Liew, from the cast of popular TV series “Tanglin”. The two celebrities will be sharing these tips in four online videos, which will be supplemented by adaptations on social media and out-of-home platforms, including MRT stations and bus shelters, all over Singapore. The videos can be accessed at www.csa.gov.sg/gosafeonline.

The “Cyber Tips 4 You” campaign will officially kick off with a launch event on 5 May 2018 at Bedok Mall. The event will be launched by Guest-of-Honour, Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information, Dr Janil Puthucheary. In a setting that resembles a café,visitors will learn how to create strong and memorable passwords, and be treated to a free cup of coffee or tea upon successful completion of their password creation journey.

Three major telcos, M1, SingTel and StarHub, have also come on board to promote the importance of using anti-virus software and will advise visitors on solutions to protect their devices from malware infections. Students from Nanyang Polytechnic will showcase a cybersecurity game where visitors can learn about cybersecurity in a fun and interactive way.Visitors can also approach volunteer cyber champions for cybersecurity information and advice onsite. The event will be open to the public from 11am to 6pm on 5 and 6 May. Admission is free.

Mr David Koh, Chief Executive of CSA, said: “Good cyber hygiene is essential because we live in a world that is more connected than ever. The focus of this campaign is to raise Singaporeans’ awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and provide them with four essential cybersecurity tips to help them stay safe online. Every step we take to protect ourselves online will go a long way in keeping our cyberspace safe and secure.”
